Ever heard of a quokka? They may just be the cutest animal you’ve never heard of! Ramon Lourens from the Netherlands, our guest blogger, found out just how cute they are on his trip to Rottnest Island in Western Australia. Find out below what other things you can be amazed by in this beautiful part of the country.
Rottnest is a famous, small island just off the coast of Fremantle (cosy
harbour town 25 minutes from Perth) and it’s Perth’s little
paradise. You can’t say you have been to Perth if you haven’t been
to Rotto! Besides white beaches, crystal clear blue waters, awesome
reefs and multiple shipwrecks, Rottnest is famous for the huge amount
of Quokkas living on the island. Quokkas basically are cute,
ever-smiling mini-kangaroos! There are literally thousands of them, so
you will find them everywhere and when you do find one, do not forget to
take a #QuokkaSelfie of course.
The best way to get around the island is by bike. There are no cars, so biking is very safe. Just get your sexy helmet on, remember to stay on the left hand side of the road and off you go (I personally forgot to stay on the left for the first 10 minutes). When you book with Peterpans Adventure Travel in Perth, you can get a special discounted package that includes return ferry and bike. Or you could also do a package that includes a boat cruise on the Swan River as well, which the most stunning views of Perth. If you go from Fremantle, be sure to check out its vibrant city centre and the beaches too.
So, if you ever go to Perth, be sure to check out one of Straya’s* most beautiful islands!
*’Straya’ is the lazy way of pronouncing Australia in a broad Australian accent.
